Journey Timeline
Athens' center is really three squares, each doing a different job, and this view moves through all three in under fifteen minutes.
Syntagma comes first — the political one, named Constitution Square after King Otto was forced to grant Greece's first constitution here in 1843. It's still the square that sits in front of the Greek Parliament, with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier out front and the 19th-century Hotel Grande Bretagne looking on from one side.
Omonia is next, and it's the opposite kind of square: modern, functional, built for transit rather than ceremony. Its own name has a political backstory too — Omonoia means "concord," commemorating an 1862 reconciliation between rival political factions — but today it's known more for its metro interchange and department stores than its history.
Monastiraki closes the loop, and it's the oldest-feeling of the three despite constant modern foot traffic: an Ottoman-era mosque, a flea market with 19th-century roots, and streets that funnel straight toward the Acropolis view above.
This is what TravelHubCam is here to show you: not one square standing in for the city, but the three that actually divide Athens' center between them — politics, transit, and history, a few minutes' walk apart.
